The maternal health crisis continues to be one of the most pressing health issues among women of color. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines a pregnancy-related death as a death during pregnancy or within 1 year of the end of pregnancy from a pregnancy -related complication. In addition, over 80% of pregnancy related deaths are preventable.

In this cinematic conversation, Producer Denetra Hampton discusses key drivers that continually affect the health outcomes of pregnant women of color. The film highlights high risk conditions from mental health to zip codes. A narrative that pulls from a plethora of data, PREVENTABLE is intended to shine a focus on how clinicians and the community can move the needle on preventing more deaths from pregnancy-related complications.
